BLAKE SHELTON - SHE WOULDN´T BE GONE
CILC – SONG EXERCISE – I4 – UNREAL PAST & MIXED TIME CONDITIONALS –Blake Shelton : She wouldn´t be gone
IF + PAST PERFECT + WOULD HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE
A) Put the verbs into the correct form:
1- Red roadside wild flower if I (pick)………only……..you.
2- If I (not/be)………………………………………..so stubborn,
3- If I (think)………………………………about her more,
4- If I (love)……………………………her this much all along,
B) The third conditional is used to talk about things which DID NOT HAPPEN in the past. It is often used to express criticism or regret. Now you have to read the situation and write a sentence with IF.
5- I was so selfish.
……………………………………………………………………
6- I didn´t think about me less.
……………………………………………………………………
7- I didn´t joke and make her laugh.
…………………………………………………………………..
8- I didn´t hold her when she cried.
………………………………………………………………….
C- Frequently the time in the IF CLAUSE and the time in the result clause are different. One clause may be in the present and the other may be in the past. Using “MIXED TIME” in conditional sentences. That´s what happens in this song. Change the following statements into conditional sentences.
E.g. I am driving like hell down the highway now because I was so stubborn. But if I hadn´t been so stubborn, I wouldn´t be driving like hell down the highway now.
9- I was so selfish. Now I am flying like crazy down the highway. But…………………………………………………….
……………………………………………………………………
10- She is gone now because I didn´t love her this much all alone. But…………………………………………………….
……………………………………………………………………
11- I didn´t think about me less. Now I am screaming out her name. But…………………………………………………..
……………………………………………………………………
12- I am praying it ain´t too late now because I didn´t joke and make her laugh.
But…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
D-Now listen to the song and use the training to complete it. She Wouldn't Be Gone Blake Shelton
Red roadside wild flower if I…..only…………………you
Took you home set you on the counter
Oh, at least a time or two
Maybe she'd thought it through.
Yellow sunset slowly dipping down in the rear view
Oh, how she'd love to sit and watch you
I could have done that a whole lot more
If I…………………………….so stubborn,……….so selfish
……………………about her more,………….about me less
…………………………………….., held her………………….
A little more that.. maybe I...
……………………………………….like hell flying like crazy down the highway
Calling everyone we know stopping any place she might be
Going any place she might go beating on the dash
………………..her name at the windshield tears soaking up my face
…………………………this much all along, maybe maybe, yeaa maybe...
She………………………………….. she wouldn't be gone..
She warned me it was coming said if I didn't change
She was leaving
I just didn't believe she would ever really walk out,
God, I believe her now
Called her mamma, cried like a baby to her best friend
If they've seen her, they ain't sayin, they ain't sayin.
Now, I'm cursing like a fool,……………………………….
All I wanna do is fix my mistakes.
Find her beg her for one more try, until then damn it I"ll..
Be driving like hell flying like crazy down the highway
Calling everyone we know stopping any place she might be
Going any place she might go beating on the dash
Screaming out her name at the windshield tears soaking up my face
If I had loved her this much all along, maybe maybe, yeaa maybe...
She wouldn't be gone..
Repeat chorus
Red roadside wild flower if I'd only picked you
Took you home set you on the counter, oh at least a time or two
Maybe she'd thought it through...
